Job Summary

The College of Information and Computer Sciences at UMass Amherst seeks multiple outstanding, highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associates. Applications for Postdocs in all fields of the Information and Computer Sciences will be considered. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks (i.e. Sr. Postdoc) may receive consideration.

Under the general supervision of a faculty member, conduct and supervise research in a particular field of Computer Science. Apply theoretical concepts to the development and implementation of systems and prototypes.


Essential Functions

  • Contributes to research in a highly technical Computer Science lab. This can involve: developing new ideas, software and hardware, designing, modifying and debugging software, evaluating and validating software, algorithms and architectures, etc.
  • Supervises research assistants.
  • Carries out experiments in association with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Describes techniques and results for use in scientific papers and conferences; assists in writing reports and articles.
  • Contributes to the development of new research proposals.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field.
  • Capacity for excellent research, as demonstrated by publications and other professional activities, appropriate to the number of years in the field.
  • Expertise with programming languages appropriate to the specific field of study.
  • Expertise with building and maintaining software systems.
  • Familiarity with one or more specialized subareas of investigation within Computer Science.
  • Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision.


Salary Information

Rank and salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
