Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Multiple positions
Full-time, 9-month, faculty member, rank commensurate with education and experience, with a graduate degree in nursing with specialty in PEDIATRICS, MED-SURG, or PSYCH-MENTAL HEALTH, to teach in our undergraduate or graduate programs. Reporting directly to the Executive Associate Dean, this clinical faculty member will participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming in the College of Nursing. They will work with the College of Nursing faculty and other departments on campus to promote opportunities for inter-professional education.
This position requires a dynamic response to a constantly changing work environment. Advising and teaching responsibilities frequently compete for priority requiring flexibility and adaptability. This position requires the abilities of a very qualified educator with broad nursing faculty experience in clinical areas and levels of complexity including substantial expertise in teaching.
(67%) Teach Clinical Courses in the College of Nursing (TEACHING)
- Teaching the clinical courses necessary each semester during the academic year for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Developing and preparing course syllabi, learning objectives, assignments, and other course materials
- Teaching in the simulation laboratories as needed
- Selecting learning experiences and guiding students in achieving desired outcomes
- Participating in the evaluation process of students, including correcting student assignments and providing student feedback for each course that is taught
- Creating teaching materials to be used
- Teaching courses within the baccalaureate and graduate programs as needed
- Collaborating with other faculty in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating teaching/learning strategies and curricula [244 CMR 6.04(4)(a)]
- Recommending new instructional and education approaches obtained at professional simulation conferences, user groups, and professional development opportunities
- Faculty guidance and advisement of students
(10%) Provide service for the Achievement of College Goals
- Participating as an active member of various College committees as well as College Faculty Assembly and annual retreats as well as participating in the systematic evaluation of the nursing program (244 CMR 6.04(1)(e)]
- Assisting with and representing the College at orientation, registration, and graduation activities for incoming and graduating students
- Initiating recommendations for additional resources and changes according to College needs
- Participating in the hiring and selection of faculty of the college through attendance at candidate presentations
- Participating in prospective nursing student recruitment activities
- Participating in the development, recommendation, implementation, and evaluation of academic curriculum policies/procedures and issue resolution [244 CMR 6.04(1)(d)]
- Engaging in activities that advance the mission and goals of the College and University
- Engage in an active program of research/scholarship
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Current eligibility for Massachusetts RN license. MA RN license required by time of appointment and must be maintained in good standing [244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)(1)]
- An earned graduate degree in Nursing, with an advanced practice certification if applicable to the clinical area [244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)(3)]
- Possess a minimum of two years of full-time RN experience, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction [244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)(4)]
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain nursing practice and academic expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities [244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)(5)]
- Ability to communicate effectively with undergraduate/graduate students, faculty, and staff both orally and in writing
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to use an online teaching platform and basic IT applications
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Doctoral Degree in Nursing
- Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education
- National certification as Nurse Educator
- Experience as nursing faculty within the past 2-3 years
- This appointment will initially include a teaching assignment of up to 16 credits per year
- Must maintain professional development annually
- Participation in the Annual Faculty Reporting process is required
- May include some nights and weekends
- An office will be assigned in either the Amherst or Springfield location
- Office accommodations will be provided along with allocation to purchase office equipment
- Salary commensurate with education, experience, and certifications.
- Travel to clinical sites outside of the normal work schedule is reimbursable but commuting travel on regular workdays is not an expense reimbursable by the University. Parking at a secondary office location is reimbursable if an annual parking pass is purchased for the first location.
