Job Summary

Perform research on the evolution of flower development in the grasses, under the guidance and supervision of the Principle Investigator.

 

Essential Functions

Examples of duties:

  • Comparative genetics in Brachypodium distachyon, maize, and other grass species, identifying and dissecting the function of floral developmental genes.
  • Molecular characterization of gene and protein function.
  • Analyses of trait and gene evolution in the grasses.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers in the lab.
  • Preparing manuscripts associated with the project.

 

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness. 
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • PhD in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Work will be conducted in the research lab, greenhouse, maize genetics nursery at the UMass farm, and in a typical office environment.

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
  • Occasional weekends as required during our summer and winter field seasons
  • 40 hours a week, 100% FTE.

 

Salary Information

Salary will commensurate with experience.
