The Discovery & eResources Management Librarian coordinates access and discovery to the UMass Libraries’ electronic collection. In collaboration with the DRMS unit, manage the integrations between the discovery platform, the link resolver, the proxy service, the library services platform, and other related systems. Collaborate with colleagues at UMass, across the Five College Consortium, and in the field to explore new and innovative ways to manage and present eResources to library patrons.
- Exercises a high degree of independent judgment and draws on deep knowledge of collection management to administer the features, functionality, and settings/configuration files of the discovery platform (currently EBSCO Discovery Service) and link resolver (currently HLM/Full Text Finder). Performs update tasks as required.
- Provides high level analysis and subject expertise to the evaluation of vendor and discovery tools. Collaborates directly with developers and product owners to implement software enhancements and features which directly meet the needs of UMass patrons.
- Exercises a high degree of independent judgment and draws on deep knowledge of collection management to administer the ERM module, keeps detailed records, and participates in data cleanup to ensure that electronic resources are consistently managed.
- Synthesizes information by running reports on the ERM suite, discovery platform, and link resolver and develops key findings that will drive strategic decision making.
- Administers the library authentication system (currently EZProxy). Works with Library Technology Services to maintain and update the system. Troubleshoots authentication issues, creates/maintains configuration files, and works with Campus IT and vendors on resolving unauthorized use of licensed resources.
- Works closely with Library Technology Systems and Web Management to assure seamless interoperability between discovery and resource management systems and other library and campus systems.
- Collaborates with the Metadata Unit to ensure batch loaded record sets are accessible to patrons. Participates in ongoing metadata maintenance projects.
- Manages portions of the eResource lifecycle, specifically relating to discovery and access with a knowledge and understanding of acquisitions and cataloging workflows.
- Works with the DRMS Unit Coordinator, colleagues in Information Resources Management (IRM), and other UMass stakeholders to shepherd the implementation of new projects and special initiatives relating to electronic resources.
- Communicates with vendors or publishers as needed to determine resources covered by agreements/licenses and to troubleshoot advanced problems with metadata, access, and linking. Collaborates with other library staff as needed.
- Participates in the Libraries' assessment program by collecting, reporting, maintaining, and using data to support evidence-based decisions.
- Participates in communities and professional organizations to stay current on issues and trends related to discovery and electronic resource systems.
- Participates in UMass library committees, task forces, and other initiatives. Stays up to date on current issues within the UMass Libraries and how they might affect patron discovery of resources.
- Participates in Five College committees, working groups, and other initiatives. Collaborates with colleagues at other institutions to analyze and resolve issues with discovery systems and the Library Services Platform.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Graduate degree in librarianship (from a program accredited by the American Library Association) or related field, or combination of an advanced degree in a relevant subject area and experience in libraries, archives, museums, or similar institutions.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, preferably in an academic setting.
- Familiarity with licensing resources, including emerging trends like Open Access and Zero Embargo guidelines.
- Understanding of integration and interoperability of library systems, repositories, websites, and research platforms.
- Working knowledge of metadata standards and how metadata moves through resource management systems.
- Ability to use technology in creative ways to solve problems and/or facilitate workflow.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Experience with library service platforms and electronic resource management software, especially EBSCO products.
- Knowledge of scholarly publication assessment data, including Impact Factor, citation and authorship data, usage data, as well as the COUNTER code of practice and SUSHI protocols.
- Experience on cross-collaborative activities to accomplish projects and initiatives.
The regular working schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, day hours.

- Librarian I salary floor: $55,000
- Salary commensurate with experience.
