Job Summary
Assigns wait people to table set-ups and serving areas. Directs dining room set-ups, makes sure coffee breaks and meals are on time; acts as direct contact between customer and catering office. Keeps records; performs related work as required.
Essential Functions
- Supervise the setting up of dining rooms and food service areas according to department standards and customer requests to meet business requirements.
- Inspect food prior to serving to ensure it meets the standards for appearance, taste and temperature.
- Supervise the serving of food and beverages according to policy to maintain portion control and eliminate waste.
- Inspect food service equipment, dining area set-ups for cleanliness and repair and report deficiencies using department forms and procedures.
- Assure proper storage of leftover foods according to department policy to eliminate spoilage and waste.
- Keep records in accordance with department procedures to record the number of meals served and time worked by dining room employees.
- Assist in the planning, scheduling and serving of special events and banquets to meet special business requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- At least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in food service work in a hotel, restaurant, cafeteria or catering firm or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions of a diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at a high school level or higher with a major in culinary arts, food service or food trades may be substituted for the required experience.
- Ability to understand and apply the laws rules policies and procedures governing the catering department.
- Ability to judge the proper quality, appearance, and condition of foods by sensory observation.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
- Ability to supervise, including assigning work, and providing training.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to work varied shifts and/or irregular hours (i.e. weekends, holidays, nights).
QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON JOB
- Knowledge of the laws rules policies and procedures governing the catering department.
- Knowledge of department procedures for preparation, service and storage of food and beverage.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Requires the ability to balance, carry, push, pull, stand, bend, reach, twist, lift and perform repetitive movements.

- This position is designated as essential personnel.
Work Schedule
- Varies depending on dept. needs; may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
- 40 hours per week.
