Job Summary

The Department of Biology and the Institute of Applied Life Sciences (IALS) at UMass Amherst are seeking to hire a faculty member who will establish a research program with high translational potential that utilizes animal models or human-derived cells to develop mechanistic insights into, and therapeutic approaches for, neurological disorders.  Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Diseases and recovery from acute injuries such as traumatic brain injury or stroke.  We are particularly interested in candidates whose research programs augment our existing strengths in neuroscience (see: Initiative on Neurosciences (IONS) and Neuroscience and Behavior Graduate Program) and extends this expertise directly into health-related areas (see IALS, Models to Medicine Center).

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant, externally funded research program, effectively teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to service in support of the department and college.

 

Requirements

Candidates must have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in neuroscience or related fields.

The candidate must have outstanding potential to build a vibrant translational research program and the ability to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are seeking talented applicants qualified for an assistant professor position.

Expected start date for this position is September 1, 2024, although later start dates are possible.
