Director Curriculum & Outreach (Slavery North) UMass Amherst
The Director of Curriculum and Outreach manages Slavery North's developing strategies to interpret and share research findings with academic and professional organizations, the community, and the media.  The Director collaborates with active researchers at UMASS and in the field, as well as reviews related academic publications to help publicize the history and art historical depiction of slavery in the northern part of North America. The Director plans and organizes panel discussions, exhibitions, screenings, conferences, workshops, and other in-person and virtual events. Additionally, the director is responsible for developing historical and art historical curricula for all educational levels and for academic and lay audiences in this emerging field of study.
Program Coordinator (Investigation Coordinator/Paralegal) UMass Amherst
The Investigation Coordinator/Paralegal plays a critical role in supporting the Equal Opportunity and Access (EOA) Office's mission to promote a respectful, equitable, and inclusive campus community. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Equal Opportunity Investigations, and operating within the broader leadership of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equal Opportunity and Access, the Coordinator provides essential administrative and paralegal support for EOA intake and investigative functions. The Coordinator must demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills and sound judgment. Slavery North/Research Fellow UMass Amherst
Slavery North fellowships are open to regional, national, and international candidates enrolled in MA/MFA and PhD programs in the Humanities and Fine Arts fields with a thesis or dissertation component. Fellows must actively participate in both the scholarly and social environment of the Slavery North. With the support of Slavery North leadership, they will conduct their independent research and create original research/works in one or more of the five mandate areas of Slavery North which include: 1) Canadian Slavery, (2) slavery in the US North, (3) the comparative study of slavery in Canada, the US North, and other northern or temperate regions, (4) the study of the inter-connectedness of slavery in Canada and the US North with Caribbean Slavery, and (5) Black-Indigenous relations in Canadian Slavery or US North Slavery. Furthermore, the research must center on the enslaved and/or adopt an anti-colonial, de-colonial, post-colonial, and/or anti-racist methodology/approach which challenges the nature of European and Euro-American imperialism and colonialism and interrogates the racist logic of the institution of Transatlantic Slavery.
Archives and Manuscript Librarian (Temporary Position) (Hybrid Opportunity) UMass Amherst
The Archives and Manuscript Librarian (Archivist) will work with colleagues in the Robert S. Cox Special Collections and University Archives Research Center (SCUA) to provide comprehensive support in the department’s ongoing efforts to curate and preserve its collections and to provide outstanding access to its holdings. The Archivist will assist patrons in learning and research; supervise use of the collections in SCUA’s reading room, train and supervise student assistants, work with classes to promote integration of primary sources into university curriculum, and implement professional standards in care, arrangement, and description of collections.
