Job Summary
The Departmental Assistant - Special Projects Worker performs varied tasks as assigned by the Special Projects Manager, including grounds maintenance, repair and maintenance of tools and equipment, recycling, and furniture demolition. This is a temporary position.
Essential Functions
- Assists with repairs of grounds, landscaping, demolition, furniture removal, and recycling.
- Performs tasks in connection with, but not limited to, grounds and landscaping maintenance, furniture removal and luggage.
Other Functions
- May work independently on construction, recycling tasks as assigned by Special Projects Manager.
- May operate power equipment as required to support the completion of assigned work.
- May direct the work of a small group of students as assigned by the Special Project Manager.
- May operate a vehicle for the purpose of transporting students and/or materials to worksite.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
- Mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications Acquired on Job
- Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment commonly employed in grounds and landscaping trades.
- Ability to operate and care for equipment.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, pull, push, stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Physical stamina and endurance.
- Manual dexterity.
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, hours vary between 7:00am - 3:00pm.
- This is a temporary and unbenefited position.
Salary Information
$16 per hour.
