Job Summary

The Departmental Assistant - Special Projects Worker performs varied tasks as assigned by the Special Projects Manager, including grounds maintenance, repair and maintenance of tools and equipment, recycling, and furniture demolition. This is a temporary position. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Assists with repairs of grounds, landscaping, demolition, furniture removal, and recycling.
  • Performs tasks in connection with, but not limited to, grounds and landscaping maintenance, furniture removal and luggage.

 

Other Functions

  • May work independently on construction, recycling tasks as assigned by Special Projects Manager.
  • May operate power equipment as required to support the completion of assigned work.
  • May direct the work of a small group of students as assigned by the Special Project Manager.
  • May operate a vehicle for the purpose of transporting students and/or materials to worksite.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Mechanical aptitude. 
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of students. 

 

Additional Details

Qualifications Acquired on Job

  • Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment commonly employed in grounds and landscaping trades.
  • Ability to operate and care for equipment.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, pull, push, stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Manual dexterity. 

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, hours vary between 7:00am - 3:00pm.
  • This is a temporary and unbenefited position. 

 

Salary Information

$16 per hour.
