SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: As a member of the Student Affairs team, this position collaborates closely with Counseling Services, Health Services, Housing & Residence Education, University Police, Athletics, the Dean On-Call team, the Associate Vice-Chancellor/ Dean of Campus life, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to provide real-time wellness checks, crisis intervention, and follow-up care for students living on and off-campus. This person is an integral part of the CARE Team and student connection to resources.  Flexibility, teamwork, the ability to establish rapport during emotionally charged situations; and the ability to tolerate ambiguity are highly desired.  This position will also be responsible for triaging students of concern and providing case management coordination as needed.

In addition, the Community Case Manager participates in ongoing collaboration with other members of the Health and Wellness staff in providing psycho-educational programming and outreach services to the students, staff, and faculty. This position will work together with the Counseling Center and Health Services staff to help conduct training, outreach, and programming in the campus community on suicide prevention, gate-keeper training, Mental Health First Aid, or similar programs and initiatives such as Mental Health Awareness Week. This is a 12-month full-time position with evening/overnight work hours.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide consultation new and ongoing to students.
  • Coordinate response with in-person assessment/intervention and/or college and community resources.
  • Coordinates the CARE Team with the Associate Vice Chancellor/ Dean of Campus life.
  • Refer as appropriate to Counseling or recommended community providers for psychiatric evaluation, medications, and/or longer-term treatment.
  • Provide support to Counseling Center related to crisis intervention for students.
  • Supports crisis/well-being checks in the community with University Police and in coordination with the Dean on Call team with the possibility to attend in person at times.
  • Maintain all pertinent documentation including updating electronic records system on notes on student meeting notes, updates, and resources provided.
  • Attend and participate in all divisional and departmental meetings.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff, faculty, and students of the UMass Dartmouth community.
  • Participate in outreach activities in the community (e.g. residence areas, orientation, campus-wide events)
  • Serve on appropriate college-wide committees as required or requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Crisis intervention and triage skills
  • Working with college students or working within a college setting
  • Familiarity with mental health online platforms
  • Ability to engage with multicultural and diverse student populations.
  • Strong consultation and presentation/training skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • EDUCATION: Master’s Degree
  • EXPERIENCE:  1-3 years’ experience in counseling, case management, social work, or related field
  • OTHER: Excellent, demonstrated crisis intervention skills and case management, Multicultural excellence in working with students of color, first-generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students, Strong knowledge of Dartmouth and other area resources, providers, emergency Hospitalization procedures, Experience providing crisis and counseling services.

Salary: $52,756 - $70,000
