Job Summary

Under the direction of the Procurement & Inventory Control Manager, the Warehouse Manager ensures that warehouse operations are efficient and responsive by supervising, organizing, directing, and training staff and by establishing, monitoring, and managing operational goals in the University inventory centers.


Essential Functions

  • Establishes and implements new department methods and procedures in conjunction with Procurement/Inventory Control Manager.  Assures all staff are trained accordingly on such methods and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains warehouse operation systems by determining product handling and storage requirements, equipment utilization, inventory management, department procurement processes, and delivery of goods and equipment to internal customers. Processes include, but are not limited to:
    • Monitoring stocking levels and establishing minimum/maximum levels;
    • Overseeing ProCard reconciliation;
    • Directing search for requested items using State, MHEC, and University contracts
    • Reviewing systems transactions daily with Buyers to ensure completeness and accuracy
    • Overseeing daily processing of After Hours Parts Withdrawals from inventory
  • Directs the issue and control of equipment, supplies and materials through the use of the Tririga System, by the Physical Plant trades, custodial, grounds personnel and others within the Amherst Campus community as applicable
  • Prepares, analyzes, and maintains various reports for auditing of inventory controls, including, but not limited to, cycle count reports; obsolete inventory reports; and re-order reports. Oversees daily operations while controlling and managing inventory and logistics.
  • Supervises daily activities of inventory centers, including quality assurance, inventory control, space management, logistics, floor productivity, delivery/shipping, and customer service.
  • Manages the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime.
  • Select, train, and schedule employees to meet the demands of the inventory centers.
  • Regularly reviews and analyzes productivity and loss prevention; develop actionable plans to address identified issues.
  • Manages process of disposal of obsolete items, in coordination with Physical Plant department personnel, to ensure compliance with Commonwealth and University policies. Ensures inventory disposal is documented and that records are maintained for audit.
  • Monitors and analyzes supplier performance data to ensure on-time deliveries are met and quality of material conforms to acceptable standards.  Expedites past due orders with Suppliers.
  • Coordinates weekly cycle counts in conjunction with In-house Auditor.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or related field with five (5) years’ experience, or High School diploma with seven (7) years experience, with purchasing/inventory control warehousing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of computerized inventory control system. 
  • Demonstrated ability with personal computers and Microsoft Office programs, including spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of Just In Time purchasing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Class "C" forklift license or obtain within one year of hire.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  •  Knowledge of workplace management system such as Tririga.
