Job Summary

The Social Thought and Political Economy Program, an interdisciplinary department in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer starting in August 2027.

 

Essential Functions

The position includes a 3-3 teaching load plus some administrative responsibilities for student mentoring and professional development.

Candidates who study materialist feminism as well as those with expertise in teaching writing within a social sciences curriculum or integrating diversity related content into social theory or political economy courses are especially encouraged to apply.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Social Science-related field.
Evidence of teaching excellence, strong commitment to undergraduate education, and ability to work with diverse populations/students.

 

Additional Details

The Social Thought and Political Economy Program (STPEC) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The STPEC Program encourages students to engage in a critical examination of society and to develop their own capacities for critical reading, writing, and thinking. STPEC students cross disciplinary lines to confront fundamental questions often ignored or neglected by traditional academic thought.

This position is subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.

 

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion.

 

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

This position will start on September 1, 2027, and will initially be for two years. The position is intended to be ongoing, with reappointments and continued employment contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

 

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is expected to be between $65,550 and $75,000. The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.

Please note:

The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors, UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.

The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.
