General Summary of Position:
The Accounting Department at the Robert J. Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Instructor to start in the 2026 Spring semester. This position will focus on teaching financial or managerial accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additional areas of teaching expertise are also welcome.
The Accounting Department is currently building faculty capacity to deepen its teaching pool and increase program offerings at both the undergraduate and graduate level. It offers a Baccalaureate degree, Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Accounting Analytics, Master of Business Administration – Accounting Option, and Ph.D. in Business Administration – Accounting Option.
In addition to traditional face-to-face course offerings, UMass Lowell has a large and growing set of online courses and programs. Online teaching experience is highly desirable. The standard teaching load for this job is eight courses (four per semester) per academic year.
Located 25 miles northwest of Boston, UMass Lowell has over 18,000 students and is one of the largest public universities in New England. The Manning School has over 3,800 undergraduate and graduate students and is accredited by the AACSB.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- An earned Master of Science in Accounting or related master’s degree from an AACSB-accredited institution no later than the effective date of appointment (December 2025)
- Substantial public accounting or corporate experience, preferably with applicable certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality teaching of financial accounting and/or managerial accounting at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
- The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Sustained professional engagement and continuous learning (e.g., participation in professional societies, boards of directors, academic conferences, pedagogical training)
Preferred Qualifications:
- A record of teaching effectiveness at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels in areas beyond financial accounting and managerial accounting
- Experience in online teaching or web-enhanced courses using Canvas or similar platforms
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated focus on collaboration and collegiality
- Demonstrated experience with student success initiatives
