Job Summary

Supervises and assists in the installation of wiring systems on the University campus (cabling, pathing, and maintaining); requisitions materials and supplies; estimates costs for typical moves, adds, and changes and renovation work associated with the campus telecommunication systems; assists in obtaining maintenance for motors, generators, rectifiers, air conditioners and associated equipment in the telecommunication system, works as directed.

 

Essential Functions

  • Install wire and cable in support of telecommunication work, install conduit and metal raceway for cable, install cabinets and terminals and other associated telecommunications equipment.
  • Plan work assignments, create diagrams of telephone wiring and other wiring systems, estimate time and materials for telecommunication projects.
  • Make recommendations on equipment, devices, and methods of installation for telecommunication and related equipment.
  • Install, repair, and maintain wiring systems relating to telecommunication appliances, motors, generators, rectifiers, transformers and other equipment under regular and emergency situations.
  • Assists in establishing and executing a preventative maintenance program for standard and emergency lighting and inspections, maintains tool and equipment inventories.
  • Drive to work sites as required to perform and supervise installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Current, valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician License. 
  • Possess a valid Class D Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge if hazards and safety precautions specific to trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and standard practices of electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts Electric Code and other pertinent safety codes.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to electrical and telecommunications systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Requires the ability to balance, pull/push, bend, lift, twist, climb, perform repetitive movement and work from ladders and scaffolds.

 

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week; Schedule varies depending on the needs of the department.

Salary Information

Grade 17, Step 6.
