Job Summary
The GIS and Surveyor Assistant (Departmental Assistant) supports the maintenance of campus mapping, utility, and spatial data for UMass Amherst and its associated properties. This position assists with data coordination and field documentation to aid in campus planning, construction, and maintenance activities.
Essential Functions
- Assist in updating and maintaining GIS and CAD data, including site, utility, and topographic information.
- Support coordination between departments for mapping and spatial data needs.
- Help manage survey data, including field data collection and contractor coordination.
- Assist with drone data capture and integration for construction and mapping projects.
- Provide general support for data organization, reporting, and map creation.
Other Functions
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- General understanding of GIS, CAD, survey practices, and drone (UAS) use.
- Working knowledge of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), a Federal Aviation Administration Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Work Schedule
- Schedule varies; up to 20 hours per week.
- This is a temporary, unbenefited position.
