General Summary of Position:
The Submillimeter-Wave Technology Laboratory (STL) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is looking to fill a full-time benefitted prototype machinist position within its Mechanical Engineering group. STL operates a nationally recognized radar-modeling program supporting government-sponsored radar signature collection and materials characterization efforts.
STL is seeking a machinist to work on a long-term research project involving high-frequency radar and report directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. Responsibilities will include manual machining, CNC machining, and some mechanical assembly. Candidates must have a strong mechanical background, minimum three years of machining experience, and familiarity with all types of machine tools.
STL is looking for a well-rounded machinist who takes pride in their work and can help solve technical machining problems. The candidate should be motivated and capable of demonstrating their potential as a productive technical staff member. The candidate must be willing to work in small groups to meet team goals as well as operate independently to achieve individual goals. Salary is competitive.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- High School diploma or GED/equivalent
- Minimum three years of experience with manual machining and CNC machining
- The candidate must be able to obtain a US government security clearance within 3 months from the date of hire and retain the clearance while employed at STL
- Experience with mechanical assembly is preferred
- The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively with diverse groups as well as having solid communication, interpersonal, and deadline management skills
