Job Summary

The Temporary Professional /Science of Thriving Program Director will support the delivery and coordination of the Science of Thriving/Changing Minds, Changing Lives (SOT/CMCL) programs, which promote wellness for UMass Amherst undergraduate and graduate students. Working under the guidance of the Director of University Mental Health Promotion and Wellbeing, this role focuses on helping students build resilience and thrive during their time at the university.

 

Essential Functions

  • Implements and administers SOT -based resilience program for UMass Amherst including teaching and facilitator training. 
  • Maintains a collegial working relationship with the licensor of the SOT/CMCL intellectual property.
  • Manages the SOT/CMCL instructional program for the UMass, Amherst community.
  • Supervises all SOT/CMCL programs and staff operations including function of classroom instructors (tenured or tenure track faculty, lecturers, professional staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate teaching assistants and peer mentors).

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required. Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrates capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with University policy.
  • Contributes toward creating a positive and respectful workplace. Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s Degree or higher in related field but not limited to Social Work, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Five (5) years experience in behavioral health, health promotion, educational change or related field.
  • Experience working in a college/university environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in strengths-based approaches to human growth, development or change.
  • Experience managing and supervising personnel from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and create and maintain harmonious relationships with a diverse population of staff, faculty, students, and off-campus constituents.
  • Ability to stay on task and work productively with minimum supervision. Ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly and develop ideas in a logical sequence.
  • Ability to read, understand, apply and explain rules, regulations and policies/procedures related to duties. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and create effective and efficient work processes. Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Certification or equivalent as a Master CMCL Trainer and Consultant as established by TwoTrees, LLC or experience teaching CMCL programs to college students for academic credit.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment.
  • Occasional outdoor applications of the work may apply.

 

Work Schedule

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt position; up to 40 hours per week, but typically works 20 hours per week.            
  • Flexible days and hours to accomplish program goals.
  • May be required to work occasional nights or weekends.
  • This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

 

Salary Information

  • $41.025/Hour
