Department: Physics

Work Location: Amherst

Schedule: Full Time

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Job Summary

The Department of Physics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a faculty position in quantum physics. This is a broad search welcoming outstanding candidates whose research advances the understanding, exploration, or control of quantum systems. We are particularly interested in quantum matter and quantum many-body phenomena, while remaining open to compelling research directions across quantum physics.

The department’s hiring priority is an experimental physicist at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. We seek candidates with an original scientific vision and the ability to establish or further develop a distinctive, independent research program. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, strongly correlated quantum matter, quantum materials, quantum magnetism, unconventional superconductivity, topological phenomena, and non-equilibrium quantum dynamics. These examples are illustrative rather than restrictive: we welcome approaches that connect existing areas or open new directions.

Exceptionally qualified candidates working in theoretical and computational quantum matter and quantum many-body physics are encouraged to contact the search committee Chair (Prof. Tigran Sedrakyan, tsedrakyan@physics.umass.edu) to present their research interests and vision, and to discuss opportunities.

Further information about the Department's research can be found at: http://www.physics.umass.edu/.
